WHAT IS PEMF THERAPY?
Terry SheltonPEMF is an abbreviation of PULSED ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS. It consists of an electronic device that provides a site applicator such as a large coil, handheld wand, or a mat to emit an electromagnetic field in specific short pulses typically at a low frequency. When properly applied to the body, PEMF in the simplest terms is a non-invasive therapy to stimulate the exchange of nutrients and waste at the cellular level and improve biological function.
PEMF Pulsed Electromagnetic Field
An electromagnetic field is the energy force that surrounds a coiled wire which is being pulsed by electricity. In many ways, the electromagnetic field is the same as the magnetic field surrounding a permanent magnet. The significant exception is that the electromagnetic field is not static, its power and frequency is controllable by an electronic device.
When an electromagnetic field is pulsed at an appropriate interval and the energy force is focused on tissue, that pulsing energy force acts like a charger to the cells helping them to regain their former vigor.
PEMF Therapy Applications
Since the 1950's science has been exploring the biological benefits and applications of PEMF. In the late 70's, the FDA approved the first PEMF device for the treatment of non-union fractures. Since then, numerous advances in technology have occurred with the concurrence of multiple studies to explore safety and efficacy.
When properly applied, PEMF therapy may offer benefits to people suffering from muscular and skeletal issues while stimulating the healing of wounds. In addition, PEMF therapy has recently broadened scope for conditions such as osteoarthritis, depression, and inflammation.
Current PEMF research is focused on the impact of gene expression, cellular repair processes, and cellular rejuvenation.
